This is a Quill book. Chapters are plain text files you can open in anything, forever — no export required, nothing to lose.

Publish

The last step is in the box.

Quill typesets the finished book: print-ready PDF and ebook, KDP trim sizes, curated large-print styles — including a two-page opener spread with a full-bleed background wash. No second app to buy.

Included

Your style and grammar checks are included — not a yearly bill.

Echoes, repetition, pacing, dialogue mechanics, style rules — and Check Packs you can read, edit, and share. What other tools bill yearly for is part of Quill, once.

The studio

Organized like a studio, not a folder of drafts.

The structure tools Scrivener authors expect — binder, corkboard, outline, parts and acts — with a story bible and version history built in.

Quill's editor — a page of prose with the Source toggle in the toolbar.

The editor

Writes like a document, saves like a text file.

A quiet WYSIWYG surface for prose, with Markdown underneath — never forced on you. Flip to source when you want it; ignore it when you don't.

Offline spell-check in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, word goals, and prose statistics that answer to you, not the other way round.

Make it yours

Four themes. Two of them are warm.

Quill in the Manuscript theme — warm paper tone.

Manuscript

Quill in the Dark Manuscript theme — warm, after dark.

Dark Manuscript

Quill in the Light theme.

Light

Quill in the Dark theme.

Visualize

See the shape of the story.

A free canvas where characters, places, and ideas become cards — each with its own portrait, joined by named connections, with notes wherever you need them. Step back and see how the whole book fits together, before a word of it is written.

Quill's canvas: the Sherlock Holmes cast as portrait cards joined by labelled relationships, with a note in the margin.

On your disk

Yours means on your disk, too.

Plain Markdown and YAML. No account. Works offline. The only connections the app ever makes are optional, and they are downloads, not uploads — a check for updates and any language packs you choose. Your book never leaves the machine — an update check sends only your license ID and app version, never a word of what you write.

Your AI policy is yours

No AI in the editor. All of Quill in the CLI.

Quill will never put an AI button in your writing space. But every feature — the binder, the story bible, the canvas, checks, import, typesetting — is exposed through a command-line interface. Which means any AI agent you already use can drive it, on your terms, from outside the app.

Let an agent do the administrative work, organize your research, or leave comments on a chapter for your revision. Or let it do nothing at all. Quill doesn't decide how you use AI. You do.
